THE Craig French-trained Buzzsaw showed a glimpse of potential by opening his winning account on debut in the Surepick Maiden on Tuesday afternoon at Devonport over 452 metres.

Buzzsaw was well supported in the betting and sent out as the second elect at $4.20, with the Rodney Walker-prepared Wyllie’s Girl the market leader at $3.20.

The son of Banjo Boy jumped brilliantly from box one, powering along the rail to find the early lead to set up a two-length break at the halfway mark.

Buzzsaw kicked strongly on the home bend before successfully staving off the challenge of Fion Macool to win by 2 ½ lengths with the reserve runner Hypatios flashing home late for third in the time of 25.86 seconds.

Offen Charles, from the Invermay kennel of trainer Eileen Thomas, backed up from his Hobart win on Thursday with a victory in the Great Northern Super Crisp Grade 5 over 452 metres.

The son of Don’t Knocka Him was quick to lead from box five and drew clear in the home straight to score by 4 ½ lengths from Adam’s Snow in the time of 25.79 seconds.

Raced by Bill and Anne Witherden at Westbury, Offen Charles landed his 3rd career win from 13 starts.
