The Launceston Greyhound Racing Club will tonight host an 11-race card featuring the heats of the prestigious J.G. Nelson Cup.

The four Divisions of the Cup promise to be action packed affairs with the majority of the state’s most exciting chasers engaged.

The top grade Div. 1 Series Heats will see the Ted Medhurst-trained Chief Jetpilot (pictured) attempt to keep its incredible record at the Luxbet Racing Centre intact.

The son of Cosmic Chief – Latina has eight wins and seven placings from just 16 outings with a personal best time of 29.60 seconds, set at its most recent success over the 515-metre journey in May.

The Russell Watts-prepared Tax Man Wins has won four of its last five starts, including a one and a half length victory over ‘The Chief’ on June 28 in Hobart and looms as a major threat in Heat one.

Fink Racer, trained by Ricky Martin, is taking on the silk department but has an explosive first split of 4.98seconds to its credit and has the advantage of box 1.
Chief Jetpilot’s litter sister Amour Baroque has drawn the red box in Heat 2,  a worrying statistic for her opponents as she is unbeaten from the alley winning all four starts, however only one of these was on the Launceston track.

Launceston Breeders Classic winner Woosha (5.02 sec) and the well-performed Black Chevelle (5.03sec) have quicker first splits under their belts and may be able to cross the Pat Ryan-trained chaser. Zulu Knock’s steps up in grade for tonight’s challenge but is flying for Anthony Bullock having greeted the judge at seven of his 10 last runs.

Vision for the meeting, commencing at 19.15pm, can be found via the live stream service at
