Greyhound racing is a game of electrifying speed.

Of course, there are races known as staying races but even they are races of sustained sprinting.

Tonight, at Luxbet Park in Hobart a number of the state’s short course specialists line-up in race two, the 340-metre dash.

Country Helen (pictured), trained by Michael Pearce, possesses lightning speed out of the boxes and has drawn perfectly in the red alley.

The Spring Gun – Country Dawn flyer has won 11 of 20 career starts, six from 12 on the track and two from four over the 340-metre trip.

Country Helen’s personal best time of 19.20 seconds is almost two lengths quicker than her nearest rivals Ozzi Oscar, Hello Teddy and Howzat Patsy.

Race five is the first leg of the quadrella and we may be able to narrow the race down to two chances, Rod Ransley’s Weeny Dryva and Allan Anderson’s Reality Hawk, both relative newcomers to the state.

Weeny Dryva finished strongly behind kennel mate In A Rush on debut in Launceston on August 14, beaten 4.75 lengths, the winner further franking the form by going on to score in Hobart at its most recent outing.

Reality Hawk won impressively at its first Tasmanian run at Devonport, recording a fast 25.65 seconds. The Nolen – Top Reality chaser followed up with fourth to Gunna’s Lady before running into major difficulties when second to In A Rush last week.

Mick Stringer may have found himself another handy performer in the shape of Ledecky.

The Vee Man Dee – Precious Native, former New South Wales, chaser ran third in Hobart on debut but then jumped to the front at Devonport to score an impressive 25.94-second victory.

Tonight Ledecky jumps from box three in the third race and is sure to take catching.

See all tonight’s chasing action, commencing at 19.23, via the live stream.

Watch Ledecky jump in front at Devonport on September 5 and lead all the way:
