Leading driver Gareth Rattray will be out to extend his lead in the state drivers premiership at the Devonport Showgrounds on Friday evening.

The Latrobe-based driver currently has 77 wins beside his name this season with his brother Todd only four wins behind. There are eight meetings of the season in the state left to be run after Friday’s fixture.

Gareth’s best winning chance of the night appears to be Jilliby Gigi in race seven. The Grinfromeartoear mare is yet to win in her eight starts since arriving in the state. She was second in Launceston last Sunday after sitting outside the leader when second to God Sake. Coming up with the pole position for Friday’s assignment, the Marc Butler trained pacer will be endeavouring to hold the lead in the 1930 metre event.

The states leading driver will team up with Marc Butler earlier on the program with Angelina Rainbow in race four. The Bettors Delight mare was first up in Hobart on June 23 which was her first start in 14 months. Well supported on that occasion, Angelina Rainbow did things wrong, galloping on two occasions and was stood down for one trial by stewards. That trial was completed at Carrick on July 1 where she finished fifth behind El Jays Mystery. Angelina Rainbow has had two starts on the Devonport circuit including a win over this distance in the Devonport Belmont back in 2015 where she led all the way.

Some of Gareth’s main chances on the program includes Maybe Jack race two, First Elva in race three and Artarama in race six.

Friday’s meeting is the last of another successful season for the Devonport Harness Racing Club.

The meeting gets under way at 17:02 pm with race one and eight to be telecast on Sky Racing 1 with the remaining races to be shown on Sky Racing 2. All races will be live streamed at
