It was a tremendous week of greyhound racing around the state with the Launceston Veterinary Group, Launceston Breeders Classic Qualifying Heats run last Friday. The Ben Englund-trained Destini Fireball – Miss Hetti litter took the Heats by storm and it would be no surprise to see the litter-mates make up half of the field in the Final.

El Grand Amigo, trained by Pat Ryan, led all the way in Hobart on Thursday night breaking a run of seconds behind Wyburn Toozie, Casio Lad and Ruby’s Flame to capture the Noel Vince Memorial in a time of 25.98 seconds.

Stars of the week

Whoop Bang – Scored its second win of the week for trainer Anthony Bullock. The black chaser recorded a scintillating 26.15 second three-length victory in Hobart and then broke through for his first Launceston success with a powerful 4 3/4 length victory in Gr5 company, both wins coming from box six.

He’s A Boomer – The Head Bound – She’s A Boomer chaser settled second behind leader Tax Man Wins and powered through along the fence turning for home to score in a lightning 29.77 seconds for master trainer David Crosswell.

Dark Drifter – Rod Walker would have headed to Devonport confident of training a winner with state sprint champion Gold Lenny in the trailer. However, it was his travelling companion Dark Drifter ($27.10) that flew the flag for the Bagdad trainer, bursting through late to claim its fifth win at the track, running 25.94 seconds.

Droopy’s Jacket – The Ged Mace chaser set up its sensational 25.73 seconds victory with a scintillating 5.93-second first split. The Droopys Marco – Dyna Falcie chaser had only won one of her last 34 starts going into Tuesday’s Gr 3 but turned the clock back with an impressive win.

Miny Mo – Brought up a winning hat-trick with a brilliant 25.77 second run for Allan Clark. Miny Mo was second last off the mat but mustered speed and cut to the rail to lead at the first corner, before going on to win by 1 1/4 lengths.

Broadcast Ted – The Eileen Thomas chaser ran an eye catching first up second in the state behind Superb Innings at Devonport last week and went one better on Thursday night, leading off the back stretch and recording a stylish 26.17-second victory.
