There were plenty of highlights from the two meetings held in the state last week with the meeting in Hobart producing the Black Booker for this week.

It was another successful week interstate in the past seven days with former Tasmanian trainer-driver James Rattray winning the Group 1 Qbred Triad two-year-old final at Albion Park with Arts Treasure in a slick mile rate of 1 minute 56 seconds. Tasmanian owned and bred pacer Jerrys Jet broke through for his first metropolitan win on the same program.

The Stars

Maree Blake – 10/10 drive aboard Lockaway Kacie in Hobart on Sunday evening. From barrier four on the second line Blake was able to grab the one-out one-back position soon after the start before coming with a well-timed run to get the money.

Paul Hill – The ‘King of the Kids’ produces another nice two-year-old on Sunday evening with Bouquet Of Roses. The well-bred Rock N Roll Heaven filly ran down a brave Twenty Two Karat who led most of the way in the $10,000 Hobart Belmont.

Marc Butler – Continued his good run of late with a weekend training double. Angelina Rainbow led all the way to win at Devonport. While in Hobart Smilin Geoff brought up his third win in his previous four starts.

Robert Walters – Made another hit and run mission to the state worth the trip with a driving double at Devonport on Friday evening on the Ben Yole-trained pacers Last Guy Standing and Four Smart Aces.

Week Ahead

The Tasmanian heats of the 2017 Australasian Breeders Crown will be staged this weekend. The three-year-old heats will be held in Hobart on Friday evening as part of their Sky 2 program of racing. Scooterwillrev should start a short-priced favourite when he takes on Jakalija in the colts and geldings heat. While the fillies’ heat looks to be an even contest.

The two-year-olds will go around on Sunday evening in Launceston with recent winners War Dan Star and Berty Mack heading the four-horse field in the colts and geldings heat, while Betterthanlife will be the only starter in the fillies heat.

The fast class pacers will do battle in the Nichols Sound and Communications Pace, with star pacer Devendra drawing outside the front line, but will have to bring his A game with a strong field drawn inside him.
