Lord Da Vinci has finalised his preparation for a run at Caulfield on August 19 with a scintillating trial in Hobart.

Ridden by race jockey David Pires, Lord Da Vinci was untroubled to win the trial by seven lengths, clocking 47.7 seconds for the 800m trip, dashing home in what’s believed to be the quickest final 600m ever seen at Hobart trials in 32.79 seconds.

“He was pretty impressive his last 600, he doesn’t have a brilliant turn of foot, he just lengthens his stride and when we straightened up I just gave him a little squeeze and then held him together and I couldn’t be more impressed with him,” an excited Pires said

“He felt brilliant, this was probably his last hit out before he heads to Melbourne next week, we just wanted to top him off with a trial and I’m very happy with how he’s progressing.”

Trainer Scott Brunton has picked out a 1200m listed race for Lord Da Vinci at Caulfield.

“I reckon he’ll give them a run for their money that’s for sure, I really think this has topped him off nicely and he’s exactly where we want him to be at the right time so hopefully he will run a brilliant race over there,” Pires said

Lord Da Vinci hasn’t raced since he completed a successful hit and run visit to Melbourne in June when he won at Moonee Valley over 1200m.
