Kamikaze Force led all the way last time and may take up the running again here out to the mile. Pistol Jack and Trophy Legs should settle handy, while Super Leane and Bastetani are capable of rolling forward into the front half.

Pistol Jack (1) comes off a good 2nd in a fast-run 1350m and looks ready for the mile here. Hardest to beat.

Trophy Legs (8) comes out of the same race and has placed at all three 1600m runs. Each way claims again.

Bastetani (4) was solid last time here over 1880m and form has held up from that run, prefer on home track but in the mix.

Kamikaze Force (6) did the job well last time in maiden grade, first go mile but could get comfortable run in front.

Vivre Star (3) won over this course two starts back before trip too far last time, not the worst back to the mile.

Verdict: Pistol Jack (1) might be looking for the mile this prep and should find this easier than the C1 events he has been contesting.

STAKING STRATEGY: 4 units to win on Pistol Jack (1).

Race 2 – 12:45 Luxbet Maiden (1350 METRES)

Looks reasonable speed out wide here with Mookcat, Mighty Hoffa and Gee Gees Roughie capable of looking for the front. Hot Chisel and Victory Medal can work towards the front from inside draws.

Mookcat (10) is an emergency but looks a deserving favourite if she gets a run off a pair of 2nd placings at this track, with the extra trip the main query.

Voices (14) showed enough on debut and will appreciate the longer trip, has less convictions than most of these.

Fancy Danz (6) has performed best over 1400m so maybe the drop in trip will suit, past couple on this track have been ok.

Hell Baby (7) has very solid maiden form last year but hasn’t raced for a long time and may need this, no doubt she has the ability if ready.

Victory Medal (5) has had a lot of chances and is hard to catch but can land in a good spot if he begins well.

Hot Chisel (2) had excuses only run here and may give some cheek from an inside draw.

Verdict: Mookcat (10) has the form on the board but in what looks a pretty limited race, maybe the lightly raced filly Voices (14) has the most scope.

STAKING STRATEGY: 1 unit to win on Voices (14).

Should be good speed here but with a few of these on debut it can be hard to gauge. Levissi, Miss Smith and Bloomin’ Late all possess early speed and can contest the front. Flikpix, Plenty Of Bling and Gee Gee Musicmaker can go forward, while debutant Mr West showed speed at the trials.

Flikpix (5) has showed plenty of potential at both runs and drawn for a gun run, clearly hardest to beat.

Mr West (11) trialled well and McCoull on is the right lead for this stable, can run well if supported in betting.

Gee Gee Musicmaker (13) has solid 2yo form and can run well but will need luck from the gate.

Miss Smith (14) did enough in first prep and has plenty of speed so she may give a sight up front.

Levissi (8) showed speed in Victoria and won a trial so respect any market support from her good draw.

Kasuku (7) has shown a bit at the trials but outside gate will make this tough on debut and hasn’t seen this surface.

Verdict: Hard to go past Flikpix (5) here with clearly the form on the board but unlikely to be any great price. Newcomer Mr West (11) may prove to be the danger.

STAKING STRATEGY: 3 units to win on Flikpix (5) and 1 unit to win on Mr West (11).

Race 4 – 14:02 Carlton Draught BM82 Hcp (1650 METRES)

Expect Kool Kash to run to the lead ahead of Sound Bar, Bidirectional and Ultimate Doom. Should be a genuine tempo to give all their chance in the smallish field.

Kool Kash (5) was very good in the Distance Final and is arguably better suited back to the mile. He will be hard to run down if ridden fast up front.

Gee Gees Top Notch (3) has hit the line well over sprint trips and placed over this course in the Golden Mile so looks a good each-way chance.

Sound Bar (1) rarely runs a bad race and is better placed back to the mile. Also has each-way claims.

Vandermeer (2) doesn’t often get out to this trip so some query there but racing honestly and can be in the mix.

Bidirectional (6) is racing well in easier grade but don’t think drop in trip suits.

Verdict: Kool Kash (5) relishes a fast tempo and if let run along in front he might prove very hard to run down.

STAKING STRATEGY: 4 units to win on Kool Kash (5).

Husson’s Kiss should find her usual role of leader comfortably here. Global Squire, Fought For, Rock It Doc and possibly Ruthless Lover can roll forward behind her but don’t expect any to take on the leader.

Sudden Shock (2) is racing well on this surface. Outside barrier poses a big obstacle but can be very strong late in a tricky race.

Mansplaining (1) is a nice type of horse better for his first look at this surface but wide gate could make his task difficult.

Rock It Doc (7) has first run for Scott Brunton, has predominantly picnic form in Victoria but can roll forward for Carr so watch market.

Husson’s Kiss (4) hasn’t done much in two runs but getting fitter and should find the front, can improve.

Ruthless Lover (5) hasn’t raced for a long time but ran well only start this surface, form last year was very good and drawn inside so can run a race if ready.

The Desperate (9) continues to race honestly and can be thereabouts again.

Verdict: Very hard race to sort out thanks to the barrier draw. Lean to Sudden Shock (2) but nothing would really surprise.

STAKING STRATEGY: 1 unit to win on Sudden Shock (2).

Race 6 – 15:18 Crown Lager Class 1 Hcp (1150 METRES)

Expect Laddieandtherocket to charge towards the lead out wide with Farewell Angelina, with Agree To and Specialist both capable of being handy from their wide gates. Monobrow, Gee Gee Cats and Foreeva can be thereabouts but have to work across from inside gates. Should be a genuine tempo.

Catalyst Fire (3) is a mare with a big future and looks to have a class edge on this field but hasn’t seen this surface and has plenty ahead this prep.

Laddieandtherocket (1) is a speedy gelding from Victoria, probably suited at this track and can lead, this trip may test but big watch on betting.

Agree To (2) has very solid form in Queensland, outside barrier looks an issue but if he can get across he will be strong late, can win if fancied.

Gee Gee Cats (11) has been ok at his last couple on this track, draws ideally and in light so he can be in the finish at longer odds.

Specialist (6) has his first run for Rowan Hamer off a long break, has plenty of ability but has had problems and trials only fair.

Monobrow (9) comes up with the inside draw and won her maiden over this course last time but ran slow time and this has plenty of depth.

Verdict: Catalyst Fire (3) is the best horse in the race and will be very hard to beat if she handles the surface. Laddieandtherocket (1) and Agree To (2) are both worth monitoring betting on, while Gee Gee Cats (11) is the improver from the gun draw.

STAKING STRATEGY: 3 units to win on Catalyst Fire (3) and 1 unit to win on Gee Gee Cats (11).

Potentially loads of early speed here. Nunivak, Nielson, Kuusela, By The Pound and the emergency Sunday Cider are all capable of leading and have a high cruising speed. Plenty of these can settle handy as well, with The Captain, Millmount, Life On The Wire, Gee Gee Sun Valley and Anyways Rosie all used to racing in the first four. Expecting a high pressure race as a result.

Life On The Wire (10) is a fantastic mare who has won on this surface and won fresh last time in over this trip, looks very hard to beat.

Nielson (1) loves this track and is in alright with Voorham’s claim. Won’t get things easy in front this time but can work across to good spot and should be in the finish as usual.

Nunivak (6) is a very promising sprinter drawn to lead or be very close to but yet to see this surface.

Love Magic (2) is another who hasn’t seen this surface but hasn’t run a bad race since arriving in the state and gets a great smother from inside draw. Can win with luck in running.

The Captain (5) has a good record at this track and draws ideally, this trip may be a touch short but has each way claims.

Verdict: Hot race. Life On The Wire (10) looks very well placed if she can settle just behind the leaders and will be very strong late. Nielson (1) appeals as the one who can spoil the Brunton party.

STAKING STRATEGY: 2 units to win on Life On The Wire.

Race 8 – 16:25 Schweppes Class 3 Hcp (1350 METRES)

Amaword should be able to take up the front pretty comfortably here, with only Orange River and Kelly’s Diva likely to provide any opposition to him finding the lead. Our Shanakee can roll forward and Glistening Star can be thereabouts but there doesn’t look much pressure on those in the front half of the field.

Amaword (1) has a fitness edge over many of these, a comfortable run in front and form on this track in good time so he gets his chance to break through.

Orange River (5) was impressive winning her only Tasmanian run, first go this track and up sharply in weight but gets gun run from inside draw so genuine danger.

Our Shanakee (2) is a tough gelding probably not as well suited over this course but has to be respected.

Glistening Star (8) is racing well at this track without much luck in running, placed over this course two back and has each way claims again.

Col’s Hero (7) also racing well here and suited with drop in trip, will do no work from inside draw and with luck getting through the field he can be in the mix late.

Verdict: Not convinced how well Amaword (1) is going but he does get his chance here. Orange River (5) looks the clear danger.
