Trackwork resumed at Devonport on Friday 14 August, followed by successful trials on Tuesday 18 August.
Prior to the commencement of today’s Hobart race meeting, riders were addressed by the Stewards regarding the track situation at Devonport Racecourse. Riders were reminded that as professionals, they have the right to decide if they are to accept rides at a race meeting or not, and that their safety will always be a priority from the perspective of the Stewards and Tasracing.
Riders were also advised that constant remedial work is taking place at Devonport Racecourse, with the objective that the programmed race meetings proceed, resuming next Wednesday 26 August.
The Stewards advised that they would be in constant communication with the various industry stakeholders in determining whether the surface is suitable to ensure rider safety, horse welfare and the integrity of races.
Riders were assured that any subsequent decision taken would only be after a careful analysis of all applicable factors and that they would be kept appraised of any developments and their input would be taken into consideration.
