BRIGHTON trainer Stephen Lockhart predicted a bright future for Fought For last preparation but the four-year-old gelding didn’t quite live up to expectations.

But today at Spreyton the gelded son of Von Costa de Hero delivered an unexpected but overdue win in a maiden over 1350 metres.

In an open betting race, Fought For settled just off the speed set by I am The Dude that was having its first start in the state for Wesley Vale trainer John Keys.

“I’ve always believed in this horse and maybe now that he’s got his maiden out of the way he can go forward,” Lockhart said.

The well-backed Trophy Legs tracked into the race from the 600-metre peg and looked the winner when she hit the front in the home straight, but she couldn’t go on with it when Fought For refused to wilt on the rails.

Fought For hit the line powerfully under strong riding from Troy Baker.
