Shelley Barnes and Deborah Williams are locked together in third place on the State Trainers Premiership table going into tonight’s bumper card of harness racing at the Luxbet Racing Centre in Launceston. Shelley appears to hold the upper hand with three runners on an action-packed 12-race programme, while Deborah has just the one representative.

Saywhat created a big impression surging away to score a powerful victory in Launceston a fortnight ago coming from midfield at the mile then sitting three-wide from the bell and scoring by 12 metres, recording a 59.2-second last half.

Experienced reinsman John Walters turned the 2200-metre C1 into a staying test going for home at the 500-metre mark, and will more than likely use the same tactics again tonight having drawn outside the front line.

Stable-mate Safari Rose, a four-year-old mare, also goes around in Race 3 and will be handled by Gareth Rattray.

The former mainland pacer will make her Tasmanian debut coming off two wins from her last three starts, with victories at Charlton and Echuca.

Olwen Jaccka, to be partnered by Ricky Duggan, is the sole runner from the Williams yard and will take on the Barnes duo. The five-year-old mare has had two runs back from a spell, finishing third on both occasions, and should be ready to show her best.

The third Barnes runner of the night is Hugo Play in the Open Discretionary over 2200-metres from the stand. The eight-year-old gelding returned to racing on July 23 with a slashing first-up third in Free-For-All company behind Roger Ramjet and Devendra.

Hugo Play, a former Globe Derby winner, finished the race off strongly and is the class runner of the field.
