July Internship a Hit with Young Enthusiasts

From behind the scenes to centre stage, our recent 5-day internship at the Brighton Training Centre gave a small group of young people an unforgettable experience into the heart of Tasmania’s racing industry.

Held from July 7th to 11th during the first week of school holidays, the program was a huge success, offering participants aged 15 and over a rare, hands-on insight into both the thoroughbred and greyhound racing codes.

Across five action-packed days, interns:

  • Worked closely with industry professionals, horses and greyhounds
  • Visited barrier trials, greyhound race meetings, and rehoming centres
  • Toured key racing facilities and travelled between venues
  • Gained a firsthand understanding of career pathways from jockeys, drivers, trainers, and other racing experts

The feedback from students, and mentors has been overwhelmingly positive, with many now considering formal training or further involvement in the racing industry.

“I’m interested in a career in the racing industry, so this was the perfect opportunity to get my foot in the door!” – July intern
