Greyhound Retirement Preparation Scheme

Greyhound Retirement Preparation Scheme (GRPS) effective 15th Jan 2024

The purpose of the GRPS is to support the efforts of racing industry participants to rehome greyhounds, support compliance with the mandatory desexing requirements under the Greyhounds Australia Rules and optimise overall greyhound health in retirement by providing reimbursement towards the cost of desexing, dental treatment, vaccination and pre-anaesthetic blood tests for greyhounds that have been retired as pets.

Procedure for Licence holders: 

For Tasracing to rebate the costs of the Retirement Preparation procedures for eligible greyhounds under the GRPS,  Licence holders will need to :

  1. Submit a 28-Day Wind-Down Notification to the Office of Racing Integrity (ORI).
  2. Make their own arrangements for required procedures with a veterinary clinic of their choice. When choosing a veterinary clinic, the licence holder MUST ensure that the clinic is aware of the mandatory dental requirement that applies for the licence holder to be eligible for reimbursement under the new scheme. (ref to 4.1 of the GRPS policy for details)

  3. Pay the veterinarian fees. Keep a copy of the fully paid itemised tax Invoice, dental certificate and desexing certificate (and vaccination certificates if applicable) made out in your name.  You will need these as part of your application.

You will be asked to upload your fully paid itemised tax Invoice, dental certificate, and desexing certificate (and vaccination certificates if applicable). If you are unable to upload these documents, you can mail them with a completed application form to

  1. Provide a copy of the Desexing Certificate to ORI and the new owner or rehoming organisation after the desexing procedure.
