National Greyhound Adoption Month
Find your new best friend
This month is national Greyhound Adoption Month and it is the perfect time to get to know one of the most gentle, easy-going companions you’ll come across.
Whether you’re ready to adopt or simply want to learn more, there are plenty of ways to get involved including visiting GAP, attending our community walk, speaking with the team about the adoption process or following along on our Facebook page for update.
Through Greyhounds As Pets (GAP), every dog is prepared for life beyond racing — assessed, socialised, and ready to settle into home life. What many people don’t realise is just how naturally greyhounds adapt to a relaxed lifestyle. They’re known for enjoying short walks, plenty of rest, and being close to their people.
Join a Greyhound Walk
As part of Greyhound Adoption Month, we’re hosting relaxed community walks where you can meet the dogs and see how they fit into everyday life.

We’ll be walking along the Jordan River track. Walk as far or as little as you like before turning back — it’s an easy, social way to spend time with the dogs and chat with the team.

Why Greyhounds make great pets

While they’re known for their speed, greyhounds also love taking it easy at home.
Life with a Greyhound.
Greyhounds are well suited to a range of households. They thrive on routine, enjoy quiet spaces, and are comfortable spending time relaxing throughout the day.
GAP helps ensure each dog is ready for this transition giving you confidence as a new owner.
Meet our Dogs
During Adoption Month, you’ll have more opportunities to meet greyhounds in person and see firsthand what makes them such great companions.
Dog availability changes regularly and often quickly which is a great reflection of how well they are suited to home life. If you’re interested, we encourage you to get in touch early or keep an eye on our updates.
