The 2025/26 racing season will feature 72 thoroughbred meetings, 99 harness meetings and 155 greyhound meetings.
Of the thoroughbred meetings, the Tasmanian Derby and Hobart Cup will be run on Friday 6 February and Sunday 8 February respectively.
The Launceston Cup will run on 25 February while the Devonport Cup will run on Wednesday 7 January.
There are seven meetings scheduled for King Island and 15 Friday night meetings at Launceston between October and April given their ongoing success.
The Hobart track at Elwick continues to race outstandingly and will host 24 race meetings across the 2025/26 season. This means that the Devonport Racing Club will host 15 meetings at Spreyton and Launceston 26 meetings.
Harness highlights for the season include the allocation of six Saturday Sky 1 timeslots for key races including the:
- Group 1 Tasmania Cup Final on 28 February.
- Tasracing Eureka Qualifying Race ‘The Beautide’ on 2 August.
- Devonport Cup Meeting on 31 January allocated to the Launceston Pacing Club.
A Saturday SKY 1 timeslot was also allocated to the Launceston Pacing Club for the Group 3 Easter Cup on 4 April.
The Tasmanian Trotting Club and Hobart Greyhound Racing Club will again hold a dual code meeting on Good Friday (3 April).
In greyhounds, feature group races will be run as follows:
- 11 December – Group 1 Hobart Thousand Final Night – HGRC
- 15 January – The Chase Final Night – HGRC on behalf of NWGRC
- 2 February – Launceston Cup Night – LGRC
CEO Andrew Jenkins said Tasracing, which was responsible for the allocation of race dates, did so taking account of a number of factors.
“We consider Sky 1 coverage a priority,” he said.
“We also consider factors like on-course attendance, tradition and community impact, major racing carnivals and feature races and gazetted public holiday dates.
Mr Jenkins said Tasracing engaged extensively with racing clubs regarding race dates and does its best to accommodate the various requests of the clubs.
