Tasmanian-owned and bred Geegees Mistruth has won the Horse of the Year title for the second year in succession.
Announced at the Tasmanian Thoroughbred Racing Awards at Wrest Point Casino on Friday night 18 September, she won the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes in South Australia and is the first horse since Mystic Journey to have won the two-year-old, three-year-old and Horse of the Year awards in consecutive years.
She also won the Leading Tasmanian Racemare or Filly award.
Tasracing CEO Andrew Jenkins paid tribute to all of the night’s winners.
“These awards are about recognising and celebrating the horses, trainers, jockeys, breeders and owners who make our industry strong,” he said.
“They provide the opportunity to pause and celebrate all of our successes and reflect on the dedication and passion of everyone involved in Tasmanian thoroughbred racing.”
The evening also celebrated a number of new Tasmanian Racing Hall of Fame inductees:
- The Inevitable and Hellova Street, both trained by Scott Brunton, were recognised for their brilliant careers on the track.
- Former race caller Colin McNiff and jockey Harold Coutts were also inducted.
- Group 1 winning jockey Craig Newitt was elevated to legend status.

- Winning Edge Raquel Clark Excellence – Kira-Lee Lane
- TJA Dux of Apprentice School – Jackson Radley
- TRC Leading Jockey – Erica Byrne Burke
- Tasmanian Trainers Association Leading Trainer – John Blacker
- Tasmanian Turf Club Two-Year-Old of the Year – Aristopolos
