Steve Old appointed Chair of Tasracing

Steve Old has been appointed the new Chair of Tasracing, after serving as Deputy Chair and a member of the Board since 2022.

Mr Old replaces Gene Phair in the role whose term expired this calendar year.

“I am very much looking forward to working with my fellow directors, everyone in the Tasracing team and the broader Tasmanian racing industry in my new capacity as Chair,” he said.

“Tasracing and the industry are set to face and manage some significant issues in the coming years, including finalising a new industry funding deed, which is set to expire in June 2029, and the Tasmanian Government’s decision to end greyhound racing at the same time.

“Industry sustainability and its future will be top of mind for me and the Board going forward.

“My priority as Chair will be to provide the leadership and sound decision-making needed to ensure Tasracing and the industry emerge from my term stronger, more sustainable and well positioned for the future.”

Mr Old thanked Mr Phair for his significant and important work as Tasracing’s Chairperson.

“He was first appointed to the position in November 2018 and did an outstanding job leading the organisation,” he said.

“I want to thank Gene for the huge amount of work he did for the industry and his dedication to the role over many years.”
