Tasmanian Thoroughbred Race Dates for 2026/27

The 2026/27 thoroughbred racing season will feature 61 race meetings, reduced from 65 meetings in 2025/26.


  • Notable changes for the 2026/27 thoroughbred racing calendar include:

      • Night racing will begin two weeks earlier, commencing on Wednesday 16 September 2026.
      • Launceston will host 12 Friday night meetings during the racing season.
      • The Tasmanian Turf Club will host 26 meetings for the season, including the traditional New Year’s Day meeting at Longford. Of those meetings, 22 will be night meetings, split between Wednesday and Friday nights.
      • The Tasmanian Racing Club will host 23 meetings for the season. The Tasmanian Derby and Hobart Cup meetings will again be held over the Regatta Day long weekend, with the gap between the Hobart and Launceston Cups remaining at 17 days.
      • The Devonport Racing Club will host 12 meetings on the Tapeta surface at Spreyton, with its marquee event, the $125,000 Devonport Cup, scheduled for Wednesday 6 January 2027.
      • Six consecutive Wednesday day meetings will be trialled between August and September, prior to the commencement of night racing on 16 September. These meetings will help determine the schedule from May to July 2027.
      • The Newmarket and 3YO Cup will continue to be run in a Friday night slot on 20 November 2026, as a showcase meeting on Sky 1.
