The Penguin Cricket Club is $10,000 richer following the win of race favourite Gladding in the Ladbrokes Community Sports Series Maiden (1150m) on Devonport Cup Day.
One of 10 local clubs in the running for the $10,000 grand prize, the smiles were as wide as the Devonport racetrack for the Penguin crew, who had made the trip south in good numbers to enjoy a great day at the races.
“We’ve had a brilliant day at the races, and the $10,000 is really going to help us with our emerging sides and the ongoing costs of running the club,” said Louise of the Penguin Cricket Club.
The brilliant weather on Cup Day ensured the designated area for all participating clubs was the place to be, and the LCSS's prize structure means no club leaves empty-handed.
Now expanded to the thoroughbred Cup Days in Devonport, Hobart and Launceston, the LCSS will see close to $80,000 in prizes shared between clubs across the state during the Ladbrokes Tasmanian Summer Racing Festival.
“It’s a great initiative to give clubs this opportunity, and we’d really like to thank Ladbrokes, Tasracing, the Devonport Racing Club and Clubs Tasmania,” Louise said.
